With the wide array of electric pickups rapidly coming to market in the next year, which one should you buy?
Let’s take a quick look at the Rivian R1T, Tesla Cybertruck, GMC HUMMER EV, and the Ford Lightning and see what they have to offer.
Which do you like best? I highlighted some pro and con areas below. These are features important to me.
I left off Tesla OTA as I think all the above vehicles support OTA now. I will call it out if they don’t, but that has been a great advantage to Tesla.
For me, the Ford I am waiting for more detailed pricing on. The $39,974 price is a bit misleading since it is a commercial focused truck, and the range on the XLT is not competitive at all without the optional battery upgrade. After doing this exercise the Rivian might get a second look from me as with the federal tax credit it is a more enticing option for a very well rounded truck, and the battery upgrade gets it into the usable towing range where it might get 200 miles with a large trailer.
Disclaimer: I have a Cybertruck reserved, and thought of replacing it with the Ford, but when I started looking at pricing on the Ford I quickly realized it wasn’t as cheap as they made it sound during the presentation.
